Pastoral Visiting Team

Pastoral Visiting Team

Hello, my name is Audrey Griffiths and I am the pastoral worker for the Benefice of Norley, Crowton and Kingsley.  I work within Ministry Team which comprises clergy and lay people and is led by Rev'd Pete Rugen.

Each church in the Benefice has a unique way of ensuring that people are made to feel welcome and there are many examples of informal visiting taking place as well as visits made by the clergy. My role is to support and assist the clergy in the care of the parishioners.

We are fortunate to have links with the hospital chaplaincies in the vicinity and if we are aware of anyone being admitted to a hospital we do contact the chaplaincy team.

We visit the local residential homes and assist the clergy in bringing the church to the residents. We visit Newton Hall on the first Wednesday of each month and we alternate our visits to Mount Pleasant on a monthly basis with our Methodist friends. We also take home communion to those who are housebound.

In addition we have an outreach to the open prison  at Thorn Cross, Appleton Thorn.  Churches throughout the area send volunteers to assist in facilitating the Prison Fellowship's Sycamore Tree Course.  This course's primary object is to help prisoners to understand the effect of their crime on their victims and ultimately to help them to take the steps towards a law abiding future.

We have ad hoc outreach events throughout the year for older people and so far they have been reasonably well attended but we can accommodate more, they are free of charge and transport can be arranged so please look out for these events. There is more detail about these events on the ‘community’ tab.
A new enterprise is The Meet and Eat Lunch Club. We celebrated our first year anniversary in October. This has been very successful as it caters for the communities of Norley, Crowton and Kingsley not just for church members and in fact our purpose for setting up this enterprise was to give opportunities for friends to meet and also to make new friends. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 12md to 2pm, there is no charge for the meals but people can make a small donation.

I am a qualified listener and offer a listening ear to anyone who is worried, lonely or just needs to talk.

Please contact Vicar Pete or me if you would like to help or if we can help you or you know of anyone who you think would like to be visited.

Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives;  he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened…..So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law of the Prophets. (Matt. 7:7,8,12)
